Macchiato
Double espresso "stained" with a small dash of steamed milk. Strong, fast, precise.
Macchiato means "stained" in Italian. The espresso macchiato is a double shot with just enough steamed milk to take the sharp edge off the straight espresso: a small dollop of foam and a splash of milk, nothing more. It's the choice of people who want espresso strength with a fractional softening.
At Skippy, the macchiato is a double ristretto with approximately 10–15ml of steamed whole milk, enough to round the intensity slightly without compromising the character of the shot. It should still taste primarily of espresso. The macchiato is served in a small espresso cup and consumed quickly.
If you order a macchiato at Skippy and are expecting a tall glass of layered milk and coffee, that's a latte macchiato, a different drink entirely. We make the espresso macchiato: small, strong, uncompromised.
